FREE The Magic Train Green Hat Thinking And Reading Worksheets For Creative Classroom Thinking. Green Hat Thinking Activities are a lot of fun. It is the part of the reading scheme which lets the children to go a little wild and to extend, stretch and manipulate the story into a better fit. It is chance for them to add the missing details which make the whole book a lot more fun. I have imagined what happens if they miss the Magic Train Home, the train stops working and also where does the train go after dropping off everyone at the end of the story? I really would appreciate your input into how I could make these worksheets better.

Teaching students how to run or hide in a terrorist attack - Child friendly booklet.

After the Paris terrorist attack, good advice came out from homeland security on what to do if you face an attack. However it was focused on adults and not child friendly. I thought I would create a simple book which explains to children what is now recommended in the case of an active shooter attack. You should however still point out that this is an incredibly unlikely event - but one students now need to be prepared for.

This set of worksheets is designed to be used with the book 'The Magic Train' (Barefoot Publishers) though they could be used with the Barefoot YouTube videos if you don't have the books or access to them. I would really love feedback on these worksheets as I am still in the process of perfecting them. I offer them in .pub as this is the best way for teachers to be able to modify them for their own use.

When I used the original book with an interactive whiteboard, I was always annoyed at having to skim to the end of the book to show an answer. I wanted it on the next page. In addition, I have now replaced all the pictured with much more stimulating colourful pictures. I have also taken the time to follow the advice of Dudley council and sorted the different problems into age groups and blocks. You will notice there is some repetition of problems both between blocks and in different year groups. The students can try the same problem twice at different times, as this is excellent consolidation. It is also an excellent time to suggest students think about how they could change the problem. How can this be used in the classroom? This could be used as an assessment at the start or the end of a unit. It also could be used as an emergency set of lessons for any teacher while covering another teacher’s maths classes. In addition, it is also an excellent set of resources to prepare for different exams. Look at how the students resolve a problem and identify the different ways different students attempt to answer the same problem. In addition to answering the problems, this is also an excellent time to look into inverse operations. How do we know we have found all the answers? How do we know we have found the correct answer? I have really enjoyed making these mental maths problems a lot more accessible. I have enjoyed teaching them in a wide range of different classes and I hope that you too will enjoy making maths fun.
